The goal of this project was to bring awareness to people of color (POCs) who have made big accomplishments in their lives and industries were yet are not as prominently featured on Wikipedia pages compared to their counterparts.
Background
Wikimedia Foundation is a nonprofit that hosts Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects. Their goal is to make it easier for everyone to share what they know. For Black History Month in February, Wikimedia was looking to add a new page to their website.
The goal of this page was to bring awareness to people of color (POCs) who have made big accomplishments in their lives and industries were yet are not as prominently featured on Wikipedia pages compared to their counterparts. We highlighted six POC achievers on the page- sharing their work, accomplishments and some personal stories.This work was particularly interesting to us since it was highlighting other fellow people of color creators. While we were brought on to partner with the team on the design and development of the project, we had to challenge the team on how the content and copy was written about the people of color that they were highlighting.

- When the client first came to us with the campaign idea of “Unseen”, we challenged this phrasing since it implied that the people of color creators and inventors were actively being unseen. The campaign content creation had been in the works for a while, so instead of scrapping the entire thing we proposed a visual way to communicate the campaign in a more racially appropriate way by crossing out the “UN” in the title reframing it to be SEEN creatorst branding across all of its sites and creations.
